Taiwan High Speed Rail Project

2005

At its outset Taiwan High Speed Rail was the largest civil engineering project in the world. THSR's bullet trains propel passengers the 350km from the Taiwanese capital, Taipei, to Kaohsiung in the south in 90 minutes.

Hyder Consulting was responsible for designing 43km of the line, 14km of which runs on viaducts, and also for advising on trackside and in-train communications.

Maintaining safety in the face of natural elements such as major earthquakes, typhoons and flooding whilst delivering an affordable and buildable design presented a considerable challenge.
